In this seminar, we will examine how artificial intelligence can support design and planning processes. In particular, we will look at how generating AI and the creation of personas can help, for example, to take user needs into account at an early stage.

In the research project „NAH AM NUTZEN 2“ (NAN-2)” (“Close to the benefit 2”) , in which the departments Housing and Basics of Design and Design Computation are working together, the focus is on the further development and testing of the new planning method  OP-OD. The OP-OD method examines participatory and collective design planning, which we will use partly.

At the beginning of the course, we work together on the basics of AI. No previous knowledge of AI or programming is required; all students will be brought up to the same level of knowledge.

After learning the basics, each of you will choose a thematic focus that you will continue to explore independently. The aim is to develop a specialized AI that can take on the role of a stakeholder (e.g. the role of the user or expert,…) through system prompting, for example, and make rough design decisions based on this.

The research field takes place in close cooperation with the M2 “Notunterkunft und Kontaktcafé in Aachen” from the department Housing and Basics of Design, which will later apply the knowledge gained and the trained AIs. We also offer both individual and group consultations. We meet at regular intervals with the M2 from the department Housing and Basics of Design, to promote exchange and to review and examine progress.
