LCA to BIM Workflow
Knowledge graphs for linking cross-domain, heterogeneous data as a basic knowledge representation in multidisciplinary planning processes
Project Description
BIM-based life cycle analyses require the linking of different environmental and energy-related material and product data with planning models. The sources, data structures, target systems and models vary greatly depending on the planning phase and construction task. Environmental product declarations (EPDs), building material data and material compositions are calculated, labeled and offered in very different ways and must be linked to the model data in complex processes. This means a considerable amount of extra work for planners in different phases and means that sustainability analyses are often only incorporated into planning processes and decisions retrospectively or not at all.
Aim
The aim of the project is to investigate whether and how the use of distributed knowledge models in the context of the Semantic Web and Linked Data can contribute to the interoperability challenges.
A better integration of different data, information carriers and sources should enable planners to carry out sustainability assessments more easily, quickly and with a lower threshold in different planning phases.
The results are to be incorporated into the integration, expansion and improvement of data sets such as Ökobaudat and EPD repositories as well as their interfaces to digital tools such as BIM authoring systems and LCA tools.
