Big BIM

/ VO, UE

"littleBim" and BIG.BIM are established technical terms that characterize different variants of Building Information Modeling. While littleBIM is exclusively aimed at using a common data model within a planning team (e.g. within an architectural office), BIG.BIM refers to interdisciplinary methods that enable the continuous and interdisciplinary use of common data over the entire life cycle of a construction task. In this course, the basic principles of this approach are taught and the following topics, among others, are explored in depth through practical exercises:

  • Processes in construction and their modeling
  • Basic data models in construction
  • Interoperability
  • BIM standards

Objective (Expected Results of Study and Acquired Competences)

    1. To learn and be able to name concepts, methods and principles of digital information and specialized data in the building life cycle and in particular building information models (BIM) with their processes and underlying methods.
    2. Recognize possible applications and limitations of BIM.
    3. Be able to generate simple data models and subject-specific BIM models using examples.
    4. Analyze and evaluate the information content, quality and significance of BIM.
    5. Be able to apply methods and procedures of process-supported data exchange in their own projects in teaching and practice.
